Acceptance Speech by Queen Sorensen

I feel very humbled and honored to be standing here tonight.

As many of you may know, my great-great aunt, Naomi Hammond Andersen was the very first Caruthers Fair Queen in 1928. My mom, was crowned the queen in 1983 and my sister, Johannah in 2007. Needless to say…..the pressure was on!

I have grown up here at the fair and ever since I was a little girl I have hoped to someday wear this crown. I didn’t realize what an incredible honor it would be – until now.

I will definitely wear this crown proudly, but over the past 4 months, I have come to learn that it represents so much more than a contest. It represents all of you and your love and support of this great fair. I am overwhelmed by the generosity I have seen. If you have purchased tickets from me or one of the other girls standing here with me, you have taken a part in keeping the Caruthers Fair alive, and for that I say…..thank you.

Thank you for supporting us as contestants, but mostly thank you for believing in the tradition of our fair and the hard work of the men and women in our community that help to make it happen. I know first hand how much work goes into this fair and I personally want to say thank you to the fair board and the people of this surrounding community for all that you do, year after year. This fair truly represents the heart of Caruthers and for that I am proud to forever call it my hometown.

I want to thank my mom and dad. I am so blessed to have parents like you that have helped and supported me in all that I do. There is no way I could have done any of this without your help. I’d also like to thank my sisters and my grandparents for all of the love, support and help you have given me this summer as well as my whole life! There is no possible way I can begin to thank every person who has helped me, but I’d like you all to know that I couldn’t have done it without you and I hope you know how much I appreciate each and every one of you.

Most importantly, I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for giving me the strength and determination to do this. For without Him I would never have been able to reach my goal. Matthew 19:26 says, “with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I believe that nothing happens by accident and through this experience of running for Fair Queen, the Lord has truly blessed me by allowing me to cross paths with so many wonderful people I may have never had the privilege of meeting.

Thank you all once again. I am so excited to be a part of this long-time tradition as this years Caruthers District Fair Queen and I sincerely hope you have a wonderful time at the fair!
