CARUTHERS DISTRICT FAIR Horticulture Display Rules 1. Entries must be from the boundaries of the Caruthers Fair. 2. Produce entries will be allowed until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday the week of the Fair. The building doors will be closed and no further entries allowed after the stated time of 9:00 p.m. 3. Produce entries must be in place and labeled completely by 10:00 P.M. Tuesday. 4. Display plates and entry tags will be furnished by the Fair. It shall be individual preference whether to cover these or not. 5. Each entry in this department must be clearly labeled. 6. Any entry not properly labeled will not be judged. 7. For guidance, the following rules are factors which the judges usually consider when placing awards: A. Condition of display (free from insects, injury, blemishes, & diseases) B. Quality of the produce C. Form (typical of variety) D. Size (based on what is currently desired for sale commercially) E. Neatness of package (nailing, alignment, cleanliness) F. Produce entries should be entered under one name, per variety (Example: Joe Smith-Thompson seedless grapes, or, Joe Smith-Ruby seedless grapes) 8. Judging will start at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday of the Fair. At 8:30 a.m. the building will be opened for final cleanup and arrangement by a small committee not to exceed 6 persons from each organization. NO ADDITIONS WILL BE ALLOWED! At 9:00 a.m., the building will be locked to all but the judges and 6 members of each organization. This allows 4 to present produce to the table of judges and 2 to tally and write the applicable information on the awarded ribbons for each item of produce. 9. All entries will remain on display for the duration of the Fair. 10. If you wish to receive any of the produce back after the Fair, the owner or representative must be at the Horticulture Building at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, following the Fair. Otherwise it will be disposed of during cleanup that day. 11. All booth decorations, produce, etc. --- must be removed Sunday morning after the Fair. Each organization is responsible for cleanup. Members of the participating organizations must be present at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday after the Fair, to assist with building cleanup. This includes removal of the display, signs produce etc. The quality desired in agricultural and horticultural product exhibits should be the quality that brings the best financial return in the commercial market, and such exhibits must be at least equal in maturity as the stage of ripeness required by Section 42513 of the California Agricultural Code in order to be considered for premium awards. The stage of ripeness is further defined as being available for nearby markets. Exhibits stressing features which detract from the commercial value of any produce are undesirable and should be avoided. Variety of Products must be adequately and correctly labeled.
